Day 4

A couple of pictures of finds from yesterday, one of which is truly amazing and one, if we can afford C14 testing, might reveal a great deal about the site. One of the pictures is of the remains of a bull or a cow. It’s a strange thing to find in an old vicarage garden and we have a lot of theories. However, only C14 testing will give us an age, and that is something we are looking into.

The other photo is of a very strange find – an ancient form of oyster fossilised over 1 million years ago. It’s called a Gryphaea and you can read about them on Wikipedia. They are known as a Devil’s Toe Nail. How spooky is that!
