We are all getting into a rhythm and I have started to arrive early so I can get the kit laid out ready for our volunteers to start when they arrive. Only fair as in these early days I have to be home after 3 or 4 hours for other commitments, so I am not there to help with putting gear away at the end of the day. As with any dig, I am learning loads every day, and the picture attached of the clay pipe bowls is significant as they will help us date the layer they were retrieved from. First thoughts are late 18th century. Tomorrow I hope to publish some photos of large beef bones that were being excavated as I left for the day. I also attach a photo of volunteers enjoying a well deserved late morning break.
The volunteers include one of our newest members, and on our public open days later this week, I hope we can recruit a few more.
