Wednesday 13 January at 7.30pm, the historian and editor of ‘History Today’ Paul Lay will be talking on ‘Providence Lost: Cromwell’s Western Design’. The talk will look at Cromwell’s disastrous attempt to seize Spain’s Caribbean territories, and the impact on his regime.
Wednesday 20 January at 7.30pm the historian and author Andrea Zuvich will be looking at ‘Sex and Sexuality in Stuart Britain’. This talk looks beneath the bedsheets of people in the 17th century and the saucy secrets of the Royal Stuarts.
Wednesday 27 January at 7.30pm the author Miranda Malins will be speaking on ‘Imagining the Cromwells’. Miranda has recently published a bestselling novel about the Cromwell family, and talks about the challenges of producing convincing fiction about historical figures.
Wednesday 3 February at 7.30pm is a joint talk by Steve Ellis and Mark Beattie-Edwards on ‘The London: Cromwell’s Mary Rose’, on the current marine archaeological project to excavate one of Cromwell’s warships, which sank off Southend and has been remarkably preserved.
